The last time Glaxon was featured on the PricePlow Blog, we covered Plasm Surge V2, its revamped, stimulant-free pump product that had all of the “Goons” talking! Shortly after, the company dropped another innovative product called Astrolyte, a jam-packed electrolyte formula with added gut-health promoting prebiotics.
Glaxon launched at the end of 2019 and so far, the company has been extremely successful. After just 10 months, Glaxon announced a massive rebranding of its entire product line.
Rebrands in the sports nutrition industry are common, but we’ve never seen a company actually do it before its one-year anniversary. But instead of calling the undertaking a rebrand, Glaxon refers to it as “season two.” Not only will every one of Glaxon’s existing supplements get an updated formula, plus new look and flavors, some will also have a different name. And that brings us to Tranquility — formerly known as Sedative.
One of Glaxon’s most popular supplements from “season one” is Sedative, a supercharged sleep aid that could knock anyone out cold. Hence, the name was fitting.
Some retailers and customers, though, weren’t big fans of the name. Glaxon listened to the feedback and renamed the product. Considering how many active ingredients are in Tranquility, it might sound like it was a challenge to make it palatable, but Glaxon pulled it off!
Sleep aids are underrated supplements in the sports nutrition industry. Most consumers are more concerned about the next best stimulant-packed pre-workout. However, for some people, sleep deprivation negatively affects performance more than a pre-workout could boost it.
If you’re constantly tired throughout the day and your performance is suffering, then maybe it’s time to reach for a sleep aid rather than another energy drink. Glaxon formulated Tranquility to help you unwind, unplug, and de-stress after a long day. Not only will it help you get a restful night’s sleep, but you’ll also wake up refreshed and ready to conquer whatever life throws at you.
Keep reading to see what Tranquility has in store for you and sign up for Glaxon news and deal alerts so you stay updated on plans for “season two.”
It’s important to note that Tranquility is one of the most powerful sleep aids on the market, which is why Glaxon lists the dosages for both a one- and two-scoop serving size. If you’re new to or sensitive to sleep aids, Glaxon highly recommends starting with one scoop so you can assess your tolerance.
For one scoop, it’s suggested that you mix it with approximately 8 ounces of water, and for two scoops, about 16 ounces of water. Consume it anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes prior to your desired sleep time. If you do well with one scoop, then the more you’ll get because every tub of Tranquility comes with 21 servings (based on two-scoop serving size).
Here’s what one full serving (two scoops/12 grams) of Glaxon Tranquility contains:
L-Glycine – 5g
Tranquility starts with 5 grams of the non-essential amino acid L-glycine. Glycine is classified as non-essential because the body can produce it on its own. However, it can also be obtained from diet and supplementation. Foods that are rich in glycine include meat, dairy products, fish, and some plants.
As an amino acid, which are the building blocks of protein, glycine contributes to muscle protein synthesis, to some extent. However, glycine is also used for the production of:
Glutathione – a powerful antioxidant
Creatine – a compound that’s involved in the regeneration of adenosine triphosphate (ATP)
Collagen – a structural protein that’s essential for all connective tissues (including hair, skin, nails, tendons, and ligaments)
Moreover, supplementing with just 3 grams of glycine has been shown to improve sleep quality by decreasing core body temperature and inducing cognitive relaxation.[2,3]
Astrolyte Electrolyte Blend (Magnesium Citrate, Sodium Chloride, Fructooligosaccharides, Potassium Citrate) – 1100mg
Astrolyte is an electrolyte blend and a prebiotic. It’s also used in Plasm Surge V2 and available as a stand-alone product. You may be wondering what the point of adding electrolytes to a sleep aid might be. Well, depending on your sleep duration, you’re not going to consume any fluids for six to eight hours.
So Glaxon decided that to promote hydration, it would be a great idea to add Astrolyte to Tranquility. And if you’re retaining more water due to the electrolytes, it’s less likely that you’ll wake up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom.
What is Astrolyte anyway?
Astrolyte is a proprietary blend of three key electrolytes (magnesium citrate, sodium chloride, and potassium citrate) and fructooligosaccharides (FOS), a prebiotic that promotes gut health through the absorption of electrolytes. Fructooligosaccharides are a carbohydrate with a molecular structure made up of a number of linked monosaccharides. They’re naturally found in a variety of foods, such as asparagus, bananas, artichokes, and onions.
A study published in the Journal of Physiology and Biochemistry found that FOS offers several benefits, but most notably, they promote mineral uptake. Since some minerals are poorly absorbed in the small intestine, supplementing with FOS can increase their effectiveness.
When you’re properly hydrated, it helps your mental and physical performance while also reducing the risk of developing muscular cramps. Tranquility is one of the only sleep aids with electrolytes, which is one of the many reasons the product stands out from the competition.
Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid (GABA) – 750mg
Gamma-aminobutyric acid is a neurotransmitter, also known as GABA. It’s commonly used in sleep aids because it has a depressive effect on the nervous system and can induce sleep quickly. It turns out that GABA is naturally produced in the brain and is heavily involved in the sleep-wake cycles.
A study published in the American Journal of Therapeutics found that supplementing with GABA promotes relaxation, decreases beta waves (your reasoning and waking consciousness), and increases alpha waves (deep relaxation). Moreover, GABA has been shown to decrease pain and stress while improving brain function, learning capability, and memory.[7,8]
L-Theanine – 200mg
L-theanine is an amino acid that’s not only found in sleep aids but also in pre-workouts. How could that be? Several studies have shown that L-theanine works synergistically with caffeine to increase mental energy, focus, clarity, and performance. Because high doses of caffeine and other stimulants can have undesirable effects, such as anxiety, nervousness, and jitters, adding L-theanine into the mix helps. takes the edge off.
At the same time, L-theanine is a great ingredient for a sleep aid since it promotes relaxation so effectively. L-theanine is naturally found in tea leaves and carries out its calming effects by increasing levels of serotonin, GABA, and dopamine in the brain. A study published in the journal Alternative Medicine Reviews found that supplementing with L-theanine prior to sleep helps people fall asleep faster and improves overall sleep quality.
VitaCholine (as Choline L-Bitartrate) – 200mg
VitaCholine is a trademarked form of choline L-bitartrate. Choline is an essential nutrient that’s found mainly in egg yolks, meat, seafood, poultry, nuts, seeds, and dairy products. So if you’re a vegan or vegetarian, getting enough choline from diet alone can be challenging.
There are a few supplemental forms of choline on the market, including citicoline and alpha-GPC. Each has its own unique benefits, but Glaxon chose choline L-bitartrate because of its enhanced bioavailability. As the name suggests, choline L-bitartrate is a choline molecule bound to two tartaric acids. Linking these molecules increases the changes for choline to be absorbed and used for acetylcholine production, as opposed to being metabolized and excreted.
Acetylcholine is a neurotransmitter that’s crucial for cell-to-cell communication and is primarily involved in skeletal muscle contractions, coordination, balance, memory, learning, and attention.[11-13] This is why choline is commonly used in pre-workouts and nootropics — to increase mental focus. Note that not all forms of choline bitartrate are created equal. Glaxon specifically chose VitaCholine because it’s one of the only forms of choline bitartrate that’s rigorously tested for safety, efficacy, purity, and potency.
Furthermore, note the “L” that’s listed next to bitartrate on Tranquility’s label because it’s a small, yet significant, detail. Nearly all of the generic forms of choline bitartrate sold are racemic, meaning they’re a combination of dextrorotatory and levorotatory enantiomers (also called DL-choline bitartrate).
The levorotatory enantiomer is the only one that’s bioactive. Therefore, an equal mixture of the two yields only 50% of the active ingredient that the body can actually use. So you would need a much higher dose of the racemic version to get the same effects.
Fortunately, with VitaCholine, you don’t have to worry about bioavailability since it’s 100% L+choline! The compound may not help you fall asleep faster or stay asleep, but it does help replenish acetylcholine levels for the following day.
Casein Decapeptide (Alpha-Casozepine as Lactium) – 150mg
Lactium is an award-winning, trademarked ingredient developed by Ingredia. This is the first time we’re covering it the PricePlow Blog! Lactium is a casein decapeptide that’s naturally made from milk proteins. So it’s important to note that if you have a dairy allergy, you may want to avoid this ingredient — or take with caution.
What’s really interesting about Lactium is that it was identified thanks to babies. It turns out that a baby’s digestive system releases casein decapeptide and causes a state of euphoria. After 12 years of research and development, Ingredia developed a way recreate Lactium. They accomplished this by using a digestive enzyme called trypsin to isolate alpha-casozepine, which is a milk protein that contains the casein decapeptide.
There’s no doubt that Lactium is an innovative ingredient, and it’s not commonly seen in the sports nutrition industry. But how can it benefit you?
Lactium has been shown to:
Decrease cortisol levels, stress, anxiety, and mood swings
Increase sleep quality, concentration, memory, appetite, and libido
Lactium increases the activity of GABA by binding to its receptor in the central nervous system. GABA is a neurotransmitter that promotes relaxation and reduces feelings of anxiety and stress.
Fibraurea Recisa [root] Extract – 40mg
Fibraurea recisa root extract is another ingredient that we’ve yet to cover on the PricePlow Blog. Fibraurea is a plant that belongs to the Menispermaceae family. It contains several beneficial alkaloids.
Historically, thanks to its antifungal properties, fibraurea was used to treat skin conditions However, Glaxon isn’t using this ingredient to improve skin health, per se, but rather, as a source of l-tetrahydropalmatine (L-THP). This compound is extracted from several different types of plants and is commonly used in traditional Chinese medicine. Studies show that L-THP produces a variety of biological effects in the immune and central nervous systems.
L-THP has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, pain-relieving, sedative, and antiviral properties. A study published by the journal Biomolecules & Therapeutics found that L-THP significantly reduces anxiety and depression-related symptoms in mice. L-THP seems to carry out its sleep-inducing effects by interacting with dopamine receptors.
A study published by Psychopharmacology reports that L-THP activates dopamine-1 receptors and inhibits dopamine-2 receptors. Overall, L-THP can help both your mind and body unwind after a long day.
Melatonin XR Extended-Release Blend (Yielding 2mg of Melatonin per scoop) MicroActive Melatonin (3% Time-Released) Melatonin (N-Acetyl-5-Methoxytryptamine) – 38mg
Melatonin is a hormone that’s secreted by the pineal gland in the brain. As soon as the sun goes down, the pineal gland begins releasing melatonin that signals to the body that it’s time to sleep. At some point during the night, melatonin levels reach a peak. Then the melatonin levels slowly decline until you wake up in the morning.
Melatonin is essential for regulating sleep-wake cycles, however, various things can impact its secretion. For example, artificial light from televisions, laptops, and cell phones can inhibit the release of melatonin and trick the brain into thinking you’re supposed to be awake. Consuming caffeine too close to sleep can also negatively affect melatonin levels. Anyone who watches TV, plays video games, or uses a computer or laptop before bed can benefit from supplementing with melatonin.
For Tranquility, Glaxon uses a time-released blend of melatonin, known as Melatonin XR. The company’s goal with this ingredient is to help you fall asleep faster, of course, but also stay asleep longer. Several studies have shown that melatonin supplementation can improve overall sleep quality, help you fall asleep quicker, and decrease the number of times you wake throughout the night.[18,19] It’s no surprise that melatonin is one of the most popular ingredients in the sleep-aid category because it works extremely well.
AstraGin (Astragalus membranaceus [root] & Panax Notoginseng [root]) Extract – 25mg
AstraGin is a proprietary blend of two potent plant extracts — Astragalus membranaceus and Panax notoginseng — from NuLiv Science. Because of its ability to boost absorption of other ingredients, AstraGin is used in a variety of supplements, from pre-workouts and amino acids to sleep aids.
For one reason or another, some nutrients and ingredients aren’t absorbed very well by the small intestine, thus, they may not be able to fully express their effects. Glaxon helps solve this problem by including 25 milligrams of AstraGin.
Research has shown that because AstraGin activates absorption-specific transporters in the small intestine, it can significantly improves absorption of a variety of nutrients, including amino acids, creatine, omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins, minerals, and turmeric.
AstraGin may also improve intestinal health and the immune system by decreasing inflammation and strengthening the integrity of the gut’s lining. Not to mention, AstraGin is GRAS-affirmed (generally recognized as safe), and Informed-Sport/Informed-Choice certified.
Celery (Apium graveolens) [seed] Extract (Std. for 98% Apigenin) – 25mg
Glaxon uses the seed extract of celery, also known as Apium graveolens, as a source of apigenin. As you can see from the label, celery seed extract is standardized to contain at least 98% apigenin, which is a flavonoid that’s naturally occurring in plants. It has several health-promoting properties.
A systematic review published in the International Journal of Molecular Science found that apigenin helps treat numerous medical ailments, including Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes, depression, amnesia, cancer, and insomnia. Since Tranquility is a sleep aid, we’re just going to focus on apigenin’s effects on insomnia.
Insomnia is a common sleep disorder that’s characterized by problems falling asleep and/or staying asleep. For many, insomnia can significantly impact well-being, quality of life, and productivity. Fortunately, there’s some evidence that suggests supplementing with apigenin can improve daytime functioning in those who suffer from insomnia and may improve sleep quality.
Rafuma (Apocynum venetum) [leaf] Extract (as Venetron) – 25mg
Venetron is a trademarked form of rafuma leaf extract, also known as Apocynum venetrum in scientific literature. Rafuma is a plant that’s native to Europe and Central Asia.
Venetron was developed by Tokiwa Phytochemical and is known for its stress-relieving and sleep-inducing properties. The ingredient is extracted from the dry leaves of rafuma and purified with resin. Venetron contains more than 4% of isoquercetin and hyperoside, which are bioactive constituents that help carry out beneficial effects.
Several studies have shown that Venetron:
Relieves psychological stress
Improves sleep quality
Increases mental focus
Improves symptoms of depression
At least two randomized controlled trials have found that Venetron is effective at inducing deep sleep, which is the point at which the slowest brain wave activity occurs, also called slow-wave sleep. Deep sleep is crucial for the restoration of several physiological processes, for example, physical recovery, brain function, learning, and memory. Therefore, getting an adequate amount of deep sleep each night is necessary for optimal health.
Spirulina (Arthrospira platensis) (Algae Body) Extract [Std. to 25% Phycocyanin] – 25mg
Spirulina, also known as Arthrospira platensis, is a non-toxic alga that has a bright blue appearance thanks to its potent color pigment phycocyanin. Spirulina is a rich source of protein, essential fatty acids, vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients.
As you can see from the label, Glaxon uses an extract that’s standardized to contain at least 25% phycocyanin, thus with a 25-milligram dose, you’re getting at approximately 6.25 milligrams of the biologically active compound. Phycocyanin is classified as a phycobiliprotein and it helps capture light energy, which is necessary for the algae’s survival.
A systematic review published in the journal Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine reported that spirulina has anti-inflammatory, anticancer, antidiabetic, antioxidant, and cholesterol-lowering properties.[23,24] To the best of our knowledge, there’s little to no evidence indicating spirulina or phycocyanin’s effectiveness on sleep. However, you’re also getting a wide array of other health benefits from this ingredient, especially with its powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.
Toothed Clubmoss (Huperzia Serrata) [aerial parts] Extract (Std. to 1% Huperzine A) – 5mg
Toothed clubmoss, more commonly known as Huperzia serrata extract, is used in Tranquility as a source of huperzine A, a powerful cholinesterase inhibitor. Simply put, huperzine A helps prevent the breakdown of acetylcholine.
So if you combine huperzine A with other supplemental forms of choline, such as VitaCholine, they work synergistically to boost acetylcholine levels. Essentially, VitaCholine increases the production of acetylcholine, while huperzine A makes sure it stays elevated longer!
Having greater levels of acetylcholine at night is ideal because it extends the duration of REM sleep (rapid eye movement), which is the stage of sleep when dreaming occurs. It also decreases REM-sleep latency, which is how fast you start dreaming. If that’s not convincing enough, huperzine A also possesses neuroprotective properties.
After trying both Sedative and Tranquility, we can honestly say that Glaxon significantly improved the flavor, mixability, and texture this time around. One of the first flavors in Tranquility’s lineup is Midnight Cherry, which even Ben likes and, as many of you know, he’s not a big fan of anything cherry flavored.
It seems that everyone knows how important it is to get six to eight hours of sleep per night, and yet, it’s the first thing we tend to neglect when life gets busy. Soon enough, you’re going to sleep later and waking up earlier in order to keep up with work, school, family, and your social life.
However, if you’re serious about your health and performance, then getting a restful night’s sleep is essential. Skipping out on sleep negatively affects you more than you think. But what happens when you try to go to bed earlier and have trouble falling asleep and/or staying asleep? Well, that’s where a high-quality sleep aid may come in handy.
Not only can Tranquility help you sleep, but it also promotes relaxation, helps lower stress levels, and helps you recover both physically and mentally. If you’re experiencing chronic fatigue, sluggishness, lack of motivation, and have trouble sleeping, instead of using a high-stimulant pre-workout, we recommend trying Tranquility. It might just be a game-changer!
